Our Management

How We Started

"In 1996, there were demands for a ban on plastic. Our entire livelihood depended on plastic as we manufacture plastic bags for company called K K Polyflex. We also had about 100-odd employees working with us. So we thought of researching on alternate uses of plastic." We were thinking for a solution to reduce the harm caused by our manufactured products, we realized that bitumen and plastic both belong to the petroleum family and both are non-bio-degradable. I started thinking of ways to use them together and judicially," says Khan as he goes down the memory lane.

During their research, the Khan Brothers realized that plastic could be used along with bitumen to make roads. Then Mr. Rasool's son Mr. Amjad Khan, who was then studying chemical engineering at RV College of Engineering, was asked to take this up as a sponsored research project. After two years of research work, Mr. Amjad concluded that it was feasible to use bitumen-plastic in laying roads. Next, they needed the approval from experts in highway Engineering. Highway Engineering Prof. Justo and Prof. Veerraghavan from the Bangalore University, took special interest in the idea and studied it. Now, they had to get the approval of Central Road Research Institute, Delhi. The brothers met the then Karnataka Honorable Chief Minister, shri. S M Krishna. Thanks to the CM's encouragement, Mr. Khans' laid their first plastic waste road in front of Rajarajeshwarinagar front gate in 2002.

In 2003-04, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the BBMP to lay 250 km of roads. From then on, the journey of our company began.

"Ahmed and I want people to understand that plastic can be our friend," he says. "If it is completely banned, people will be compelled to switch to paper and cloth and that would destroy all our trees in less than two years. By using plastic to fill potholes, this artificial material can cause no more damage. Alternatively, when you recycle plastic, you're prolonging its life"
